ARE WE LATE?

By: FERDINARD TIEKON

The story is told of a young man (Esau) who sold his birth right (as first born son) to his younger brother (Jacob) for a bowl of stew. For Esau, the fleeting pleasure of satisfying his immediate hunger was far more precious than his rightful entitlement as the 'First son' until he 'grew up'.  What Esau did not realise then was how he had not just sold his birthright but his privileges and other blessings (which his dad gave to the buyer,Jacob) That one decision made without careful reflection comes back to haunt him in his latter days. [Gen 25:29-34]

The point here is that young as we are the decisions & steps that we take are for a lifetime. We may not realize it now, we may fail to accept this truth but the evidence stares us in the face. But wait! pause in your 'thinking' steps and do a throw back analysis...can't you see that you're where you are because of the decisions you made, the choices you opted for, willingly or otherwise?

"To be or not to be is a matter of choice" Though we are young, these are the times we make most of the relevant life-turning decisions -the High School to attend, what to study at the university,  what career path to take, the friends and family we surround ourselves with, the decision to marry and who we choose to spend our life with, etc. These are most often than not choices we make relatively at youthful ages hence the need to be knowledgeable and smart to make informed decisions. Admittedly, those who make the right  decisions end up reaping the good fruits and vice versa unless those resolutions were borne out of the 'ESAU EXPERIENCE'.

Life does not often present us the option of a second chance hence we can't afford saying "There where the dim past and future mingle their nebulous hopes and aspirations, there I lie"

Because sooner than later, "It seems the world has changed her garment but it is I who have not crossed the fence. So there I lie" [Lenrie Peters,The Fence]

Be sure to remember that every second, every hour, every day and at every age you exchange your life for something -be it good or bad, useful or fruitless- thus the need to negotiate for better things NOW. To exchange your beauty, youthfulness, time for fleeting non profit ventures is a waste of one's life.

So if you are out there, if you can hear me now...know that
the future started yesterday and we are already late.
